Dado – The Fécamp Blockhaus

The Fécamp Blockhaus (4 min 44 s)
A music by Félix Lachance, a film by Pascal Szidon
© Félix Lachance, Pascal Szidon, 2012

In 2003, founder Régis Bocquel invited Dado to occupy a blockhaus in Fécamp, France.
Overlooking the seaport, situated on Côte de la Vierge, this R612 type casemate was built by the German occupiers between 1941 and 1942.
Dado will work there until 2006, creating bronze sculptures as well as wall paintings.
The movie shows Régis Bocquel sequences of Dado at work before 2006, mixed along location scenes captured by Pascal Szidon after 2008. Many of the sculptures shown would however be reworked and finalized during the following year in order to be part of the Montenegro pavilion of the 53rd Venice Biennale. Therefore, what is presented here consists of Dado's work as it was conceived before the 2009 Venice exhibition. (Further testimonies from this era are available through a 70 pictures collection by Régis Bocquel, took between 2003 and 2006 and recently published by CGB Gallery along writings by Claude Louis-Combet and Yanitza Djuric.)

Original score for the film was specially composed by Félix Lachance, which had previously released a piece selected by Dado to figure as an accompaniment to his Val-Fourré collages series.
